The Future Office

Since 2001 Kyrre Texnæs and his collegue dr. psychol. Oddvar Skjæveland has been helping organizations moving from one building to their new building. Check out the three main aspects for the organization to be aware of!

Kyrre Texnæs and his collegue dr. psychol. Oddvar Skjæveland has since 2001 guided organisations like Telenor, The Defence Departement/Military Command, Avinor and others in their process of moving into new new buildings and workspaces.

Changing into a new building is not just moving over. There are three main aspects in a moving prosess:

  • The architecture. It's going to be there for many years, at least 10-15 years. So it better be fit for change and adaptations.
  • The organizational structure. F.ex. how does the leader change his role when suddenly she or he is more openly exposed to co-workers? With new working spaces comes new and hopefully more efficient organizational structure.
  • The culture. Who are the people working there? What are their needs and preferences? How do they move? How do they communicate? Not only as individuals, but also as a collective. What is their potential? How can the architecture and the organizational structure support the people and their wellbeing and productivity?

These three aspects must be addressed in an integrative way. The workers are especially faced with an increased amount of visual communication as the spaces are more open and people in general are encouraged to work in teams. The importance of upgrading the employees' knowledge within this area is critical.

Feedback from the Future Office event at Dansens hus 26th of august 2010:
